This is a selfguided tour around various mine sites in Cobalt. Maps and further information are available at the Cobalt Mining Museum. The trail can either be navigated by foot or by motor vehicle. It consists of 19 historic mine sites. At each site, you will find a sign depicting the history of that particular site.
Mining Museum. The Cobalt Mining Museum strives to preserve as much of Cobalts past as possible and boasts the worlds largest display of native silver ore. Some samples of Cobalt silver are on permanent loan to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.
Inside town just opposite of the Cobalt Mining Museum is another headframe. The Glory hole is a large quot;holequot; that was dug to explore for silver, it is located near the headframe amp; a short trail leads to it. The hole is water filled amp; about 250 feet deep, you can see a number of side tunnels exiting it.

We took a day trip to Cobalt and it seems that the Cobalt Mining Museum is the feature attraction in town. When we attended on a late August afternoon there was only one other couple in the museum..Unfortunately the tour that actually went down on the mine had stopped for the season a few days before our visit which I think would have been the highlight of visiting the museum.
